It's a Guy Thing... Violette Triangle Pillow

Good morning and welcome to my stop on the "It's a Guy Thing" blog hop, hosted by Carol of Just Let Me Quilt. The challenge for this hop was to create something for your guy, tomboy or in manly-man colours.

If you've read my blog for a while, you'll know of my never ending efforts to keep my decorative couch cushions un-smooshed. My family have an ability to turn a lovely square cushion into a misshapen blob, in the blink of an eye.

I thought about this for a while and decided to make a cushion for my husband that he could sit on and smoosh to his heart's content. I asked him what his favourite basic shape was and he told me a triangle, so with a plan in mind, I got to work.

I decided to make an equilateral triangle pillow for him. I used the Crafters Edge Crossover II machine to cut out my triangles. At the same time, I cut the circles for the Coins Coaster project which I shared here last week. I love when I can work two projects at once.

The fabric is called Violette by Amy Butler and I used mainly the blue/green and orange prints from the layer cake. After the triangle panel was all sewn together, I layered a piece of batting and then quilted 1/4" alongside each seam.

I had a half yard of a coordinating print from this range, so used that for the back (with a zip!!!!).

My husband is currently flying back from Japan as I type and then he'll spend the next 14 days in home quarantine. He'll spend that time in our spare room, so I'll leave his new cushion in there for him to lean on, sit on, and generally smoosh and misshape as much as he wants... and I'll try not to get annoyed. Hah!

For all of the participants in the "It's a Guy Thing" blog hop follow along with Carol of Just Let Me Quilt. Today's participants are listed below, so let's go and see what they've all made for their guys.

  22. This is such an attractive pillow! Love the triangle shape and the colors. Lucky you to have a fast way to cut out all the pieces. You didn't mention the pillow size, but it looks fairly small - yes? Sorry to know he had to travel for work, and now has to quarantine. When will the tedium of this virus end?!
