I {Heart} Reading : Bookmark {Week 20/52}

With Valentine’s Day drawing near, how about another little scrappy project, suitable for Love Day… but in all honesty, it’s suitable for every other day of the year too.

I Heart Reading Bookmark

I gathered a few teeny triangles and with a foundation square of muslin and a decorative stitch on my machine, I made the base for my scrappy heart.

I drew a heart onto the back of the foundation fabric (just with a lead pencil) and cut it out on the line.

I then layered a backing of this neutral homespun fabric, a thin layer of pellon (fleece or very thin batting), another layer of the same neutral fabric and then scrappy heart.

A pin held the heart in place and I stitched around it a couple of times, just with the regular straight stitch on my machine.

I Heart Reading 2

I trimmed the bookmark to size and sewed around the 4 edges. The lovely crimped edge was a last minute decision with my pinking scissors.

It needed a little colour, so I used some lovely Perle 8 cotton in violet and quilted around the heart. I do love the effect of some hand-quilting.

The eyelet (is that what the little gold dooby-thingy is called?) and some pink satin ribbon completed the bookmark, though if it’d given it a little thought, I could have just sewed the ribbon into the edge seam…. next time, that’s just what I’ll do.

I Heart Reading Book Mark

A scrappy project which is completed in under an hour… pretty good, if you ask me.
