My latest finish is this Morning Star Quilt - throughout August, Island Batik ambassadors had a free month to choose and create a project, using whichever fabrics we'd like, from the box of goodies we received earlier in the year.
After watching the YouTube tutorial, I decided to make the Morning Star quilt, using a 2.5" strip pack of Blushing Garden paired with some black yardage. The Morning Star quilt is a design by Tara Faughnan and a tutorial video on how to make the block is available by Jenny Doan on the Missouri Star Quilt Company. It's such a fun block/quilt and looks way trickier than it actually is.
I used my favourite Aurifil 50wt cotton thread to piece the quilt. I used #5016 in an olive green colour which worked well to blend with all of the colours in the Blushing Garden fabric range.
I used a lovely light-weight Thermore batting by Hobbs Batting. Thermore is a 100% polyester batting that is guaranteed not to beard or migrate. This batting is excellent for hand or machine quilting - of which I did both.
Machine quilted using Aurifil 50wt cotton thread in black, within the ditch between the 9 blocks. Then it was time for my favourite hand sewing. I used a variety of Aurifil 12wt cotton thread to big stitch hand quilt in the blank space between the blocks and within the star shapes.
This quilt was lovely to work on and I enjoyed every stitch. The lightweight batting was easy to work with and was a great project to stitch in the evenings - not too heavy or unwieldy to manhandle.

Very bright and cheerful....reminds me of starburst fireworks.
