Green Geese Table Mats

Introducing my Crafters Edge Designer project for September - Green Geese Table Mats (or as we call them here in Australia, placemats).

Following on from my post the other day, I have never been a great fan of making flying geese units. But in all honesty, these units were very simple to cut and create using my Crafters Edge Crossover II machine and triangle dies.

With summer on the way, I wanted to make a new set of mats for our outdoor table. The BBQ is out there and we like to eat outdoors (when it's not too hot). Plus, clean-up is always easier when we BBQ and eat outside. Do you find that too?

I gathered some green scraps to cut out the geese and low volume pieces for the finishing triangles on either side of the goose.

After trimming, I sewed the units into columns of 5 which were a great height for my mats (approximately 13").

The main section of the mat is a light cream fabric with little grey stars. The backing is a fun green print leafy fabric that I've had in my stash for years. These mats were free motion quilted in a loopy meander and then finished with a grey/white spot print.

Now all we need is for some warmer weather to come along and stay for a while. We've had some lovely warm days but it's turned cold and rainy again. Mother nature isn't quite ready bestow those long balmy days on us just yet.

  2. These placemats are so super cute. Love, love what you did with your flying geese blocks. Also love the quilting you did on them. Hopefully warm weather shows up soon for you. We are having it cool and rainy here - our Autumn weather - which I love :)!

  5. Those green flying geese are very pretty, and they look precisely perfect! You chose a lovely, fresh color-combo, and it's great that you'll use them soon... when the weather cooperates. Here, we're waiting for cooler temperatures to eat outdoors, but I agree that it's a treat to be outside. As for clean-up, that's my part of the bargain because hubs does the cooking. Can't say cleaning is easier, but it's more pleasant anyway. :-)

  6. They did turn out well. Hopefully there will be more flying geese in your future, now that you have mastered them.
