Autumn Love : A Quilted Cushion

My Autumn Love Cushion is finished and I must say that I just love, love, love the quilty texture of it.

Over the past couple of days, I've enjoyed spending time sewing big stitches within the machine quilted spiral of my Autumn Love cushion. I used DMC Perle 8 in a cream colour. I have a lot of balls of Perle 8 cotton in a rainbow of colours, but my go-to always seems to be the cream.

To finish this cushion, I added a zipper with one of those cool cover flaps to hide it. I hate sewing zips, so I tend to go with the envelope style back. For some reason, I felt brave this morning so after watching a few tutorials on YouTube I tackled the backing. It turned out so much better than I'd expected and I'll certainly consider this style of cushion backing in future.

This cushion began it's life as my leader & ender project. You can read more about that here.

This cushion finishes at 20" square and will live on my couch. I'm sure I'll spend the next little while trying to keep my family from sitting on it or squishing it out of shape.

  3. This is fabulous, the colours and textures from the hand quilting really move it up a level. i always do envelope backs even though it uses more fabric, anything to avoid zips!

    1. Thanks Kay. I usually go with envelope style backs too, but they don't seem to hold up to the family usage. They seem to squish out of shape which was why I tried this zipper style. Keep it all in place (hopefully).

  5. Great colors, design, and the quilting makes it- as quilting should- otherwise it is just a collage.

    1. Thanks Janice. These winter days have been quite cold & gloomy which is okay as we're in our 4th week of lockdown here.
