Cuttings Quilt {Dust off a Book - Blog Hop}

I have a lot of craft books on my shelves. I don't think I've ever met a craft/sewing/quilting/crochet book that I haven't wanted to look through and make things from.

When I saw that Bea of the blog, BeaQuilter was hosting a new blog hop called 'Dust off a Book' I knew I just had to be involved. I have so many books with projects that I'd love to make, but just never got around to.

I chose a quilt project called "Cuttings" from a book called "Little Quilts" by Sarah Fielke and Amy Lobsiger. I love this book. Love, love LOVE it!

I've already made a few quilts from this book, but I never got around to making the "Cuttings" quilt. This was the perfect opportunity.

You can see the Drawn Together and Not Quite Hawaiian Quilts which I also made from this book here in this blog post.

This quilt is made up using a few different skills - piecing, machine applique, needle turn applique, machine and hand quilting - I loved every minute of it.

I machine quilted in the ditch of some sections of the quilt and the majority of it for hand quilting with perle 8 cotton. Straight lines within the petals, echo around the leaves and crosses all over the background. I am still thinking that I may add some more hand stitches within the flower centre and the vase.

Thanks to Bea for a fun blog hop and please go ahead and visit these fellow bloggers to see what they're making from their quilt books.

    1. Thanks Frederique. It's a really sweet book with a lot of great projects. I've put it back on the shelf now, but I'm sure I'll get it out again to make something else from it. Have a lovely week :)

  2. I have this book too and sometimes get it out but haven't made anything yet. I prefer your colour way to the one in the book. I do like to see variations of a quilt, I think it is so inspiring and gives more ideas for how it could look. x

    1. Thank you! I did wonder about that directional background fabric, but it turned out okay. It's actually a bigger quilt than I'd thought when seeing it in the book. I want to make the little hexagon & bee mini next. Have a love week :)

    1. Thank you so much. It's a great idea to donate when you don't need it. I remember ordering this book through book depository (or amazon) and they ended up sending it to me twice, so I did a blog giveaway.

  4. This is beautiful! I especially like the striped binding, the lovely handstitching and the beautiful flowerpot fabric. I got this book from the library but had to return it before I could make anything out of it. It did have a lot of great quilts in it. I might have to invest in my own copy!

    1. Thank you for your lovely comment. It's a sweet book and now that I've been looking through it again, I'd like to make the little hexagon and bee mini quilt project. Maybe you can find it in your library again. Happy stitching :)

  5. Anorina, you really set this Meadow Bloom on fire. I love this. What a treasure.
    I have a layer cake of this fabric and have used pieces, I keep the collection (as a few others) in separate containers to keep the pieces together. Sweeeeet and well done

    1. It's a really bold and happy range of fabric, isn't it? I had a F8 bundle of it and have used it in a couple of projects this past month and still have quite a few F8's still whole. Yay! Thanks for your lovely comment xx

    1. Thanks Carla. I'm pleased with this quilt and the extra stitches. I did go a wee bit overboard over the weekend with the big quilted X's on the background so now have sore fingers. I'm sure they'll be fine to get back to stitching again before long. Have a great week :)
