Whirligigs & Pinwheels Quilt

A new baby in the family means I have an excuse to make a new quilt. I bought a metre of some cute airplane fabric and after much indecision, I finally decided to re-create my 'Whirligigs and Pinwheels' quilt

Whirligigs and Pinwheels is the perfect quilt for a 'hero' print with a few coordinating solids. It is a free pattern which I shared a few years ago and can still be found right here.

The pattern has the basic fabric and cutting requirements for a baby size quilt, but you can definitely make this bigger. Once you get the hang of making the two alternate blocks, you can decide how big you'd like to go with it.

I quilted it with a loopy meandering design and finished the binding with the same print as the the outer border. I was posted to its new home and finally arrived so I'm glad that I can now share it without ruining the surprise.

  3. This is adorable, Anorina! I love the way the red pinwheel blocks suggest airplane propellers with this novelty print as the focus fabric. Brilliant!

  4. Such a cute quilt! Boy quilts can sometimes be challenging to make, for want of finding the right print and pattern, but this one is good. The colors are perfect, bright and happy. You're so nice to make it and send it as a gift. Good for you!
