Quilted Fabric Box {Week 10/52}

Welcome to week 10 of the 52 Week Scrap Challenge. We’ve hit double digits. Can you believe it?!? I have to admit that I am a little surprised by how easy it has been to come up with different projects each week. Ways to get through the fabric scraps, in fun and interesting uses.

Well how about we make a project to store our fabric scraps? How about making some fabric boxes?

This week, I made this Quilted Fabric Box.

Quilted Fabric Box

I used the pattern by Crazy Mom Quilts, from the book “Sunday Morning Quilts”. It’s a project which I’ve wanted to make for a while … and finally got around to doing.

Quilted Patchwork Slab

It is made with a slab of quilted patchwork which is then cut down to 6” x 8” rectangle sides and a 8” square base, with the same measurements for the lining.

Before sewing in the lining, you add some cardboard into the walls of the box to give it strength and structure. If you can get a hold of a couple of boxes of Jatz or Shapes, the sides of these boxes are the exact size you need.

I decided to bind the top of my box, rather than the turn out method. In hindsight, the turn out method may have been easier because sewing the binding inside of the box wasn’t as easy as I’d expected.

Have you made a Scrappy Box lately and blogged about it? We’d love to see it. Please leave your URL in the linky below so we can come and visit. Otherwise, share your pictures in the 52 Week Scrap Challenge Facebook Page or Samelia’s Mum Facebook Page.

  1. I've linked a post from when I made my last one - Aqua (I still have two to make then I will have a completed set) I made mine a little bigger than yours and they are one of the best things that I have made and added to my sewing space. Makes using scraps so much easier when they are just there at hand. hugs

  4. Really liked the creative design you've shared here Anorina. I was looking for furniture design ideas, and your creativity made me give my time to your post. Concept is good and after products is also looking nice. Nice handmade stuff to store fabrics and made of fabric.
