Happiness: it’s the little things

Later this week, I will be attending a Blogger Brunch hosted by Kids Business, in Melbourne. It’s a wonderful event where I’ll get to meet up with other bloggers. It is also an event where brands, who are interested in engaging with bloggers and their readers, are represented.

The Bloggers Brunch will also raise funds for “Stitch in Time” – a community initiative run by Spotlight. If you’d like to learn more about the Stitch in Time initiative, please click the link. As you probably know from previous posts, Spotlight is one of my absolute favourite brands, so I’m very excited to have the chance to chat with them.

Kids Business also have a ‘Happiness Inspires Happiness’ initiative. It is a way for mums who blog, to help inspire other mums to feel happy about themselves, their achievements, life, future etc…

So, I’ve been thinking about it. Happiness that is.

What makes me happy?

I’ve come to the conclusion, that for me, it’s the small things that inspire those bursts of happiness. Small, everyday things that bring joy.

  • Cuddles from my children
  • Hearing a song on the radio, that invokes happy memories.
  • A sun-shower (with rainbow)
  • A good sneeze
  • “Reduced to Clear” items at the supermarket
  • A phone call or email from a friend who I haven’t spoken with for a long time
  • Unexpected parcels delivered by the postman
  • Fabric (yes, this should probably be close to the top of my list)
  • Smiling at a stranger and that smile being returned
  • Chocolate
  • Orange Gerberas

Amelia is at home with me today.
I just asked her what makes her happy. This is her list:

  • Ice-cream
  • Lollipops
  • Ladybugs
  • Scooby Doo

So now I’m throwing it over to you.

I’d love to know…

What makes you happy?

  1. My iPad (I'm using it right now), my crafts, reading, my grandsons, my DD's hugs (she may be 26 but she still loves cuddles with her mamma!) and this gorgeous spring-like weather!

  2. Books make me happy. Reading, buying, smelling old books. The affection my kids throw at me so readily (and frequently). Hugs, kisses, high 5s. Coffee also brings a smile to my face :)

  4. I love books too. Much prefer to read a book by turning the pages than with a kindle or the like. Whoops, I forgot to add coffee to my list. Thanks for sharing :-)

  5. Oh what a great initiative!! Have fun talking to them :) Today's been hard to be happy but I'm very grateful for cheap and yummy takeaway food options at the supermarket so I didn't have to make lunches!

  7. A really good sleep in; quiet time by myself; cuddles with my kids and hubby; and too much more to name...

  8. Anything fabric related! Having the house to myself to sew and sing loud while I'm doing it! Reading, the beauty of nature, brekkie in bed.... Loads of things, I'm a happy soul by nature and can usually see the joy in most things! These days we spend too much time in front of a computer screen, large or small, and we have to remember to look up now and again and enjoy the moment we're in!

  12. Hello, I just posted my own blog about the nature of happiness as I begin my happiness project, and I was wondering if I might use the picture with the chair in my blog. I will link to your blog in the caption.

    Thanks,
    Jenna
