Geranium Delight #5

The fifth EPP block for my Geranium Delight quilt project is complete.

These colours aren't my favourite, but I'm determined to finish this quilt with my stash of 30's inspired fabrics. Linking up with Wendy for FNSI.

I joined Chooky and friends for a Saturday sewing day zoom. I was only able to log in for a little while in the afternoon, but it was fun to sit with and chat with other sewing ladies. Like me, a lot of the ladies who were online yesterday are in lockdown, so it's nice to be able to talk and listen to other people and hear about how they're coping with it all in their area/community.

During this time, I cut and prepared some more pieces for my next Geranium Delight blocks. To cut the fabric, I use my Crossover II machine with the 1.5" hexagon and 1.5" jewel dies.

I glue the fabric to my papers (also cut the with Crossover II) but I ran out of the sewline glue refills yesterday, so reverted to using a school glue stick.

Last night, I sat down to watch Nine Perfect Strangers and started sewing together my next block. I read the book by Lianne Moriarty a while back, but honestly don't remember much of the storyline. Anyone else read &/or watching it?

  5. I also have some of those jewel papers...maybe I should make some plans for them! I love how the latest Geranium block is looking! How lovely that you were able to 'zoom' with other stitchers yesterday, even for only a short time. With regards Nine Perfect Strangers, I did not persist with reading it some time ago when one character despaired over how bad her day was because she had a paper cut! I have little tolerance with that sort of thing, although I had previously been a Moriarty fan.

    1. I know I've read it, but I honestly can't remember much about the story line. I'll keep watching the tv show while I have my Amazon Prime account current :)

  6. Beautiful EPP. Colours look great together. I have binged the 3 episodes of Nine Perfect Strangers and look forward to the next ep. I loved the 2 seasons of Big Little Lies too. I bought the CDS as I loved the music.

    1. Thanks Janice. I'm still deciding what background fabric I will applique them all to. I was tending towards a pastel, but now I'm wondering if maybe a darker teal or blue would look nice. Decisions, decisions :)

  12. I knew it wouldn't take you long to select another EPP project, and this one will be a beauty. How nice that you're using-up repro feedsack stash. I used to a have a big collection of them too, but sold them about eight years ago at a quilting garage sale. Making modern quilts has changed my perspective on my stash! Yes, I read that book - Nine Perfect Strangers - and actually didn't much care for it. The story was too bizaare to be real. As for a TV series based on the book, I've never heard of it. Maybe it's not available in the US.

    1. I must admit that I'm not a fan of these fabrics and I don't know why I stashed them for so long. In saying this, because I'm not a real big fan of them, I'm happy to cut into them and use them up. When I love a fabric range, I seem to hesitate in using the fabric, in case I mess it up.
I know that I've read the book, but I honestly don't know think that much of it stuck around in my brain. The series is on Amazon Prime. I have an account with them after buying a couple of things for my daughters birthday, so I'm making the most of the added extras like the shows and books :)

  13. Anorina, your geranium block is sweet. The fabrics are okay but yes, I can see how these prints can get rather tiresome. I have similar fabrics that I just do not know what to do with them Usually my EPP projects do not encourage me to use them either, and I like the AGF fabrics most of the time for special projects, anyway, I am certain in the end, all of the blocks will absolutely be beautiful together and it will be a treasure. So, I applaud your persistence to stare at .. for instance, lavender and yellow with tiny sewing notions, and get them joined up. Funny but sometimes sewing in public with ugly fabrics is also a chore. I take my projects to daddy's doctor visits and look busy in the corner chair, listening of course. but I always bring pretty fabrics because everyone is nosey and wants to see what I am making and the whole thing looks pretty undesirable if you are using fabrics you do not even care for.... but that is just crazy me....🎊🔸
I will have to look up the Nine Perfect Strangers. I believe I have heard of it (the tv series possibly) I do not have time for reading, even audio books are not exciting,,, ok ok I admit, I do not read much fiction, or maybe the last fiction books I read were pretty disappointing.

I hope you get out of lock down soon. Here in the US, as usual, everyone is at each others throat over this whole pandemic. We are not on lock down and I do live in a crowded suburbs in Northern Virginia. I just try to keep myself clean, limit my exposures, and get enough sleep!

    1. Yes, I know exactly what you mean about sewing with "ugly" fabrics in public. There are a host of new announcements being promised here, later in the week, so I'm looking forward to hearing how what the plans will be for kids and schooling along with opening up the borders so we can finally be free to travel.

  14. To me this design is absolutely amazing. Gotta learn how to do EPP. Covid has sure turned the USA upside down and I feel it is best to stay to home. It reminds me of when I was a kid and all the fear of polio. Good time to learn EPP! Thanks for your inspiring information.

    1. Thanks very much. EPP is quite simple to do and once you get started, it can be quite addictive. I hope you have a go at it :)
Covid has also turned Australia into a bit of a battle ground between the states. The state leaders have the power to open and close borders and all seem to have different agendas in what they want for their state, rather than working together for the country as a whole.

  17. do you have a photo of how the quilt looks all joined together - do you add other shapes or does this "flower" just keep joining to others?

  18. Oh! I so love 30's fabrics! Your block is indeed beautiful - and your quilt is going to be a treasured heirloom! Thank you so much for sharing!
