Gossip in the Garden Quilt

It was another busy weekend here and what felt like the blink of an eye my lovely relaxed Friday evening, was suddenly Monday morning, waking up to the incessant beeping of my alarm.

In between carting my children back and forth to their various activities and social events, I managed to trace out the pattern pieces for the large central block of the "Gossip in the Garden" quilt to fusible paper, choose and fuse to the scrap fabrics and then arrange them on my background.

Doesn't sound like much, but I'm glad I now have a lovely block all ready to machine applique and make some progress on this quilt (FINALLY).

I had started this project a number of years ago and had thought it'd be a great slow needle-turn project... but after starting it enthusiastically, it sat hidden away in the back of a drawer for years. I looked at what I'd done (way back when) and wasn't really in love with the work I'd done, so figured I'd start it again.

It's a little bit early to call it, but I think that this finishing this block will be my OMG project for July.

Gossip in the Garden by Anni Downs of Hatched & Patched is a beautiful pattern. I had finished the first block in this quilt project which I think I'll keep. It was raw edge applique and I used some lovely glossy perle cotton to back stitched around the edges.

  2. this really is a stunning quilt - glad you got it back out. Your fabric choices are lovely.
I used to use a really thick fusible for my older (still unfinished) Rosalie Quinlan Dolls house quilt, but it was so thick doing the blanket stitch around it was tough on my hands. It was a good fusible though as it was double sided and you could reposition it if required.
    What fusible are you using?

    1. Blanket stitch is lovely. I love Rosalie's designs too. I think I have a couple of patterns purchased at a quilt show, but which I haven't started. I must have a look. I use Heat n Bond of which I bought a couple of rolls a few years back. I think I have enough to last me for years :-D
Have you tried blanket stitch on your sewing machine?

  5. What a great quilt, if I didn’t have so many ufos-I would make it. I love the idea of tea and garden together. Your vase on the redo is just the perfect fabric for the block. Keep up the good work.
