Checkmate Quilt Blog Tour {featuring Windermere}

The Fat Quarter Shop have just released their newest FREE quilt pattern and it is just perfect for sewing up your favourite Layer Cakes. The new quilt is called the Checkmate Quilt and it's the an excellent pattern for a beginner to practice their piecing, or for a more advanced quilter who wants to create a quilt in a day or two.

I created my Checkmate Quilt with Windermere by Brenda Riddle. I'm a fan of pretty pastels and floral prints. I thought this fabric range was excellent for this quilt as it has a good selection of both light and dark prints.

For the border, I used a print by Fig Tree Quilts from the Mirabelle range. I've had it in my stash for a while and this was the perfect project for it - the browns just work so well together. Don't you just love when that happens?

I spent about an hour and quilted a large meandering free motion all-over design. It's a simple quilt design and one of my go-to's. I really look forward to washing the quilt and putting it through the dryer to get that lovely, crinkly, snuggly feel. It's one of my favourite things about finishing a quilt (which I plan on keeping for myself).
