Four Octagons Table Runner {including pattern}

Four Octagons Table Runner

It’s been a long time since I’ve had the time (or inclination) to create a project “just for me”. We have a side table which stands against a wall in between the dining and living rooms. It seems to be a place where all of the “bits and bobs” seem to end up. It really drives me crazy. I try to keep it clear, but honestly, it’s been a losing battle... that is, until I started placing jars of flowers on the table - for some reason these flowers have helped keep it clear of keys, sunglasses, random hot wheels cars, hair elastics, Legos, pencils etc…

So now that I have a “flower table”, I thought it was high time to make a table runner, especially for it. Liberty fabric and linen are one of my absolute favourite combinations, so I’ve combined both of these, with some English Paper Piecing and hand quilting for my little runner.

Visit Ava & Neve who stock a beautiful range of Liberty Fabrics along with linen fabrics.

(One day, the rain will stop and I’ll be able to take some better photos of my work.)

I’ve called it the Four Octagons Table Runner and if you’d like to have a go at making some EPP Octagons, I’ve created a sheet full of them, which you can download and print. Just click on the link at the bottom of this post.

Four Octagons - Quilting

Creating EPP octagons is just like making hexagons –it just has a couple of extra sides. I love this empty star in the centre when the octagons are placed together in pairs. The star is the perfect opportunity to add some stitching.

I used a frixion pen to trace a circle (yes I know, frixion pens are a big no-no, but I still use them for my little projects). I then hand quilted through the layers with DMC Perle 8 cotton is a purple/wine colour. After adding the binding, I decided to stitch one last row along the edge of the binding.

  2. I like your table runner! I'm working on a turkey placemat for Thanksgiving. I followed the tutorial from Bee in my Bonnet. I just have to finish quilting it.

  3. You never fail to amaze me with your beautiful designs. The table runner is a must make for me. I've been away from EPP too long, funny how that works; but your design will get me back to something I love. Thank you for sharing your wonderful talents.

  7. Love it! I've done hexies but not octagons. I really like the central star that is created.
