The Salvaged Quilt

A couple of years ago, I joined a blog hop and made a quilt top.

I didn't finish it and put it away because it didn't turn out as I'd hoped.

Shuffling through drawers, I rediscovered the quilt top and decided that I really liked the print fabrics (Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs) so maybe it'd be a good idea to unpick the whole thing and salvage the pieces.

And when I say unpick the whole quilt top, I mean my husband to unpick the whole quilt top. Yep, I did it. I got my husband to unpick the whole quilt top. In the evenings when we sit and watch telly, I sew or crochet or do something with my hand while we watch our show. He generally just watches the tv or plays with his phone... and then starts yawning and wants to go to sleep, while I'm thinking, I've still got a few more episodes of the show I could be watching. You know what I mean?

So I gave him the quilt to unpick. He worked on it over a few evenings and it did keep him busy (and awake).

Now I have a pile of pretty salvaged fabrics to re-cut and play with.

  1. it is nice your husband helped - I know mine wouldn't have! He generally will fall asleep and I keep watching the shows.

  3. It would have been fun to see the "before" quilt. Is there a particular reason you didn't care for it? I'm glad to know you saved the fabrics though. You're a genius to think of asking him to unstitch it for you. But it's more amazing that he agreed to it! Mine would never consider it. What a good team you are. Glad you've find a new use for those pieces. I think it's looking really good. Enjoy making it.

  5. These are beautiful blocks! I love how the strong, warm colors work together and play against the center greens. How big are these blocks? They look small but it's hard to tell from the photo.
