Mother : a mini quilt (with pattern)

Mother's Day is just around the corner, so with this in mind, I created this little quilt to gift to a special mother.

This “Mother” quilt is a lovely little project to create and gift to a special mother (who may not necessarily be your mother) but is perhaps a little down, or going through a tough time, or really, just because. Receiving a handmade gift for no reason, is a lovely little pleasure, don’t you think?

I found the words on Pinterest and re-created them on a word document. I traced the words on to this sweet pale pink and white Tilda fabric and stitched with Perle 8 cotton in a dusky rose and lilac cotton. It’s just a simple back stitch which can be completed within an hour or two.

The “Mother” stitchery word document can be downloaded and printed here.

Once stitched, this could be framed and gifted as is.

I decided to applique the 1/2” vine with some leaves, using some Tilda scraps. I adore Tilda fabrics and try to use up every last little piece. The vine is cut on the bias and put through my snazzy little Simplicity Bias Maker. Have you got one of these little machines? So much fun and very very quick!

Once I had finished the applique, I decided that I needed to do some quilting. I admit, I may have gone a little overboard with the quilting. Not a person who quilts feathers often (well only one time before this), I decided a border of feathers would look good. I admit, they’re a little wonky and vary in width, but gee they were fun.

Around the stitched words, I quilted little loops and swirls, being careful not to stitch over the embroidered words. A think 1/4” binding and this little wall quilt is finished.
