Follow the Leader (Modern Quilt A Long)

The Modern Blocks Quilt A Long is here! After a lot of chatter among the ASWC crew, we're all very excited to begin our #ModernQAL

First, up is the Follow The Leader block. Amy has shared step by step instructions (with photos) on how to make this block.
Now personally, I'm not really a fan of Flying Geese. I do like the look of this traditional block, but I’ve never been a fan of making it myself. It has always been a block which I’ve steered clear of. I’m not sure exactly why, but I think perhaps it has to do with all of those points and matching up all of those seams.

I tackled the Follow The Leader block and found the instructions to be quite easy to follow. The 99 Modern Blocks book is a starting point and the blocks can be interpreted as the quilter wants… like the direction which I have taken, in my very pink, Follow the Leader block.

  1. I'm still trying to decide between 2 lots of fabric but will have to make a decision soon. I have avoided the geese so far too but the block does look very pretty. x

    1. I'm not usually a fan of geese either, but these were quite simple and now they're done and dusted and I can look forward to the next block - Spool.

Looking forward to seeing your block.

BTW - don't forget to join the linky on ASWC once you've made your block - there are some great prizes up for grabs.

  3. I put my name down to be part of this quilt along then promptly forgot all about it! Thanks for the reminder! Sheesh! That isn't the kind of block I'd hoped to be starting with (I'm still a bit of a newbie remember?) but I'll take to to class if I have to! Better go and find some appropriate scrappy fabrics -- I'm following your lead in this regard!

    1. I'll tell you a secret Lynne - this block looks more complicated than it actually is. I love those sorts of blocks :)

Can't wait to see how you go with your block.
