Slow Stitching Sunday

Today (Sunday) has been a 'home' day.  It's nice to have those types of days where you don't have very much planned.

I started out my day by sending my kids off to their weekend jobs. My son has a drivers licence and car now, so he took his sister and dropped her off at her job before going to his work. My husband is away in San Fran right now, so it was just me and the pets at home.

I could have done housework - there's always housework that needs to be done - but I didn't. Instead, I put on a pea and ham soup in the slow cooker. It was to be an all day slow cook. The kids and I love this type of soup, but my husband, not so much. We eat things he doesn't like, when he's away on trips. Yes, he's a fussier eater than the rest of us.

With dinner prep done, and the kitchen tidied up, I took myself outside to enjoy the beautiful winter day. I let the dogs out and sat down with tea and some EPP. I'm not sure what these hexies will become just yet, but it's nice to have an EPP project on-the-go again. I do love slow sewing.

The dogs got bored of being in the garden, so we went into the sewing room, turned on my audio book and sewed up some of my pickle-dish blocks. I currently listening to a book called Red Dust by Fleur McDonald, which I'm enjoying. I listened to another of her books last month and enjoyed that too. Fleur writes mysteries/crime/romance, set in farming country, in rural /outback Australia.

The afternoon did get busy with a dog walk, grocery shop, picking up my daughter from work, ironing school uniforms and getting ready for the week ahead. Now that dinner is done, I can get back to working on my EPP and watching a little bit of television. I'm working my way through 'The Good Fight'. I'm up to season four and it's getting a little bit weird. Have you seen it?

I hope you've all had a lovely Sunday too.

PS: Look at this fabulous mug my husband brought back from Vancouver. It has moose on the inside and is the size of a small bucket. It's definitely a two tea-bag sized mug.

  1. That soup looks delicious! I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with those hexies. I love a big mug except I would have coffee in mine. Happy stitching!

    1. Thank you. It's slowed down quite a bit as I want to make enough blocks to add an extra two blocks to both the bottom and the side for the full "circular" effect.

    1. Thank you! It is lovely out there and especially during these winter months. We don't get much rain through the winter in this part of Australia, so sitting out there in the sunshine is very nice.

  4. Sounds like a lovely day to me! Can’t wait to see what you do with your hexies. I would pick stitching outside on a sunny day over housework any day! Gail at the cozy quilter

    1. haha housework is over-rated, especially when there's nobody home to see you do it. Better to do the chores when other are around.

    1. I guess we all have things that we don't enjoy. A box of hexies means there's always a project to go on with when we're not sure what we want to sew or in-between projects.

    1. Thank you. I do love this view and it's one of the reasons we decided on this house.

  7. Sounds like a lovely day! I love having dinner in the crockpot, too. Your view for hand-stitching outside is lovely! We watched a season or two of The Good Fight, but gave it up after awhile. I can't even remember why!

    1. It's Wednesday morning here and I'm getting the crockpot out again to make something (possibly chilli) through the day.

I'm at season 5 of The Good Fight now and it got very strange at the end of Season 4. It was at the start of covid and they'd filmed bits and pieces so in the first episode of S5 they put it all together and showed it as what happened previously - except that we hadn't seen any of it. I was very confused and had to go and google if I'd somehow missed half a season or something.

I only have one more season after this one, so I'll keep at it. It's my go-to show while husband is away and I tend to watch it on my laptop, sitting up in bed with my crochet. I'm such a party-animal!!

    1. It's a fabulous mug and I think moose are cute (although probably not as cute to people who actually live amongst them).

  9. Oh, I love ham and pea soup, my DH not so much either. He will eat ham and white bean soup, so at least that's something. Nothing like a "me" day!! And a mug big enough for two tea bags + those blue wrapped chocolates!! Heaven!!!!!

    1. I've not tried ham and bean soup before - I must go and google. Is it a slow cook, like the pea and ham version? Those choccies were yummy and sadly, they're all gone now.

    1. Yes, it's much more productive when we're not interrupted all day, or "need" to do things, like cleaning or grocery shopping etc. Housework is over-rated.

    1. Thanks Susan. I'm not sure what they'll become just yet or even if they'll stay hexie flower shaped. It's just nice to have a project at the ready. I hope you're well and enjoying your break :)

    1. Thanks Janice. I am absolutely loving this winter weather we're enjoying. This week has actually been short sleeve weather through the day. Perfect! I hope you're having a great week too :)

  14. How nice that you had time to yourself. Your soup looks delicious! I would have eaten your husband's portion. :-) How nice that you could be outdoors, even though it's winter. Here, it's so hot that even in the shade, you start feeling sweaty and miserable within five minutes. I can't wait for autumn weather. Then, I will do as you did... with nice, gentle, slow-stitching to keep my hands occupied. Thanks for mentioning the book you're reading! I was able to find Fleur McDonald books on my library's audiobook app - 15 of them! I've marked a number of them for listening. I appreciate you mentioning her because I'm always a pushover for a story that takes place in Australia. Hope you've had a great week!
