Sundae Quilt

Hello friends and welcome to my stop on the Cake Mix Quilt Book: Volume One by It's Sew Emma! blog tour, hosted by The Fat Quarter Shop. The Cake Mix Quilt Book partners with Moda's Cake Mix Recipe Cards to make 16 beautiful quilts.

When I received the invitation from The Fat Quarter Shop to join the blog tour, I hadn't seen the quilts, only the names of the quilts and decided on the Sundae Quilt. Honestly, who doesn't love an ice-cream sundae with chocolate fudge sauce and crushed nuts... yum!

I ordered the cake mix #3 papers and got to work. It's such a simple way of producing the most perfect half square triangles.

It was a slow task, but I sat myself down on the floor and removed all of the papers from the back of the 540 HST's while watching Moana with my daughter.

This Sundae Quilt uses one print layer cake (I used Hazelwood by Moda) and a solid layer cake (though I was cheeky and used a white dot on dot layer cake. I decided to make the basket handles with a co-ordinating solid coral fabric which I already had in my stash, though there are enough left-over print squares from the layer cake to make them.

This is a big quilt. Really, really big. Probably the biggest quilt I've ever made. Once I get around to quilting it, it will be perfect for my king size bed.

I'm still deciding how to quilt this and would love your suggestions. There is a lot of white space which I could potentially play with.
