Playing With love + FNSI

Well, playing with love hearts that is...

I spent Friday having lot's of fun cutting into new fabric and putting together my project for the 'Hearts of Fire' blog hop which starts next week.

Rather than my go-to scrappy projects, I decided to crack open and cut into a F8 bundle which has been sitting on my shelf for years. The colours are bright and happy and most importantly, not red, which is part of the blog hop challenge.

Visit Wendy at Sugarlane Designs to see what else everyone was creating for their Friday Night Sew In (FNSI).

In other news, I've finished book 3 in my 2021 reading challenge. Yay! To be honest with you, I'm feeling quite impressed with myself. I don't normally get through books very quickly. Reading is like everything else in my life - rush, rush, rush - trying to squeeze everything in to my day.

Book 3/26 of 2021 is The Chain by Andrew McKinty. I really enjoyed this one. It was fast paced and captured me right from the first page. Some books I'll read a page or two and then go to sleep, but this one had me reading til the wee hours.

The morning starts like any other. Rachel Klein drops her daughter, Kylie, at the bus stop and heads into her day. But then a phone call changes everything. A woman has Kylie bound and gagged in her back seat, and the only way Rachel will ever see her again is if she pays a ransom - and kidnaps another child. The caller is a mother herself, whose son has also been abducted, and if Rachel doesn't do exactly as she's told, both children will die. Rachel is now part of a terrifying scheme - The Chain.

Linking with FNSI, Finished or not Friday

  1. Isn't it funny to hold onto a FQ or F8 bundle? I just cut into one this month as well--think it was from 2010!
    Cute hearts, gives me ideas...

    1. Yes I have a few bundles still sitting on my shelf, though I'm not sure why I've been holding on to them for so long. Best to cut into and use them all up :)

    1. Thank you! It'll be part of the 'Hearts on Fire' hop starting on Monday. I love sewing heart shapes so it should be fun to see what everyone comes up with.

    1. Oooh I've not seen the Goodreads challenge (though I'm very slack with using the app). I'll go have a look. Someone suggested the Dymocks challenge which also look like fun. Enjoy the rest of your weekend :)

  6. Pretty fabric in those hearts. I too am breaking out some fabrics that have been around for a while.

  7. Its a very pretty bundle - obviously you were waiting the the "right project".

I've starting reading again too - only on book 2 - much more satisfying than the idiot computer games I was playing late at night!

    1. Gosh games can really take up our time, can't they? But then again, sometimes they're a good distraction, especially the ones on our phone while waiting at appointments or kids activities. Enjoy your reading. I've started a new book this week too, though it's a slow burner.

  8. What a gorgeous bundle to cut into for the Blog Hop...
I don't have the patience to read so listen to Audio Books as I sew...

    1. Yes I completely agree. Audiobooks are such a good way to pass time in the sewing room. I used to "watch" shows while sewing but found that I'd miss what was happening half the time because I wasn't looking at the screen.

  10. I am doing the same thing with my 2021 projects - trying to cut into fabric that I bought and stashed a love time ago! I do like your hearts. I don't do much applique but these caught my eye!

    1. Yay! I'm pleased to hear that you're working through your stash too.
These hearts are super easy to make and most of the bigger background hearts or middle hearts actually have smaller hearts cut out of the centres which became the little ones. Making the fabric stretch as far as possible ;-)

  13. The first cut is always the hardest when using those carefully preserved pre-cuts or bundles - and thereafter, it's lots of fun! Your heart blocks are definitely cheerful and will make an eyecatching quilt! Your book read sounds good, too.

    1. Oh yes, I completely agree with you. Untying the ribbon that holds them all together and then deciding which piece to cut... and then actually doing it. This heart project was fun to create and I can finally share it tomorrow (Wednesday) as it'll be my day on the blog hop. Enjoy your day x

  14. Love your beautiful hearts! The first thing I noticed was they were not your typical red Valentine's hearts. That book sounds gripping! I may need to put it on my To-Read list!

    1. It was a fun challenge to create a heart project without using red. Yes it's a great book to read quickly. I've started a new one, but it's a much slower start and I haven't been captivated as yet. I'll give it a few more pages.

  15. I'm happy for you to be using-up a stashed bundle. As I never buy pre-cuts, or bundles of anything, I don't know how that feels though. For me, it's always been about buying at least a fat quarter of a fabric I love, though these days that quantity has upped to half-yard cuts. And, if I'm completely honest, I'm not buying prints anymore. It's solids only, for making modern quilts. Have fun with your heart project. I hope the hop goes well for you!

    1. Your solid quilts made in solids are all so gorgeous. I personally can't resist a floral fabric, especially the teeny tiny florals (like Tilda or Liberty) and will find it hard to cut into those bundles. Enjoy the rest of your day :)

  16. I love the bright fabrics in that bundle. I have never bought a bundle of fat quarters, but I have been sorely tempted recently.

  18. The hearts look fantastic, looking forward to seeing the finished quilt.
I've had a bundle of lovely fart quarters for so many years, this is the year they're becoming a quilt (hopefully).
