Cosmic Quilted Bag

Welcome to my stop in the 'Making us Laugh' blog hop, hosted by Joan of MooseStash Quilting. The theme for this hop is projects which might amuse and put a little bit of extra sunshine in our day.

For the blog hop, I created this Cosmic Bag. Why Cosmic I hear you ask? Well, originally when I put these circles on to the bright scrappy background, I thought they looked a little bit like planets. Can you see planets?

And then I got a little over excited when I started to add extra embroidery stitches to embellish the dark planet circles.

And before I knew it, they'd become great bit flowers in a cosmic rainbow garden.

As I was quilting these great big petals, I wasn't sure where this was going or what I'd make with this quilted piece. As luck would have it, the handle of the bag that I use to cart library books from my local library tore off the bag completely. Well the idea of a library bag was born.

This one is lined with some great big handles so that I carry it comfortably on my shoulder.

  1. Your bag is gorgeous and fun! They do look like planets, but also like flowers, or like planet emitting something in petal formations!

  2. What a great bag. Oh yes, I saw the planets. So fun that things are changing as we go on with a project. I often start with one thing, ending up with a totally different product.

  3. What a fun bag! After you put the petals on the planets, the planets became eyes watching you, ala Stephen King!

  5. This is way cool, I can see the planets, the flowers, but my first thought before reading was a "monsters" eye... at maybe Halloween. :) Do you see that? hehehe This was great and I love how you reused the handle of the old bag. I love the quilting on this bag also, it's just so very clever.

  6. Oh my goodness, seeing the whole piece, gave me goosebumps. It's absolutely gorgeous! Thanks for walking us through how it came to be. It's always fun to see inside a creative mind! When I snoop into your bag, I see a quilt book in there. Good girl!
LOL!! Thanks for joining us, I'm wanting to go play now! :-)

  7. I love your Cosmic bag! As a "bag lady" myself, I have made 100's of bags (I test bags for designers and sell my bags too). The lining is a fun fabric on your bag too.

  8. Hi Anorina! What a pretty name! Your bag is fabulous and a great use for that fabric. I definitely see planets among the circles but that quilting swayed us over to flowers. Love the whole concept. You have certainly achieved the mission of the hop by making everyone smile. I thank you for that! ~smile~ Roseanne

  19. What a great bag. You're big stitching looks absolutely wonderful - it truly MAKES the project. Yep, I could see the planets but I loved that you made them into flowers, too. Just a bit of Qwasy to make it perfect.
