Cool String Art {Review + Giveaway}

It was Saturday morning. I was sitting at the dining table, drinking my morning coffee and reading the 'latest' on my iPad. Do you do this too? Check your emails, then have a little look at FB or Instagram followed by a look at the latest blog posts from people you follow?

During the week, it's a little tricky to enjoy the very limited early morning online/coffee time, what with getting the kids rounded up and ready for school. But during the weekend, especially without any pressing plans... it's my time. You get it, right?

So anyways, back to Saturday morning. We were enjoying a quite morning. Hubby was pottering around in the garage and the kids were entertained. I had a look at a new eBook from Leisure Arts called 'Cool String Art' by Lori Wenger and with a sudden burst of enthusiasm and inspiration, I took on a whole "new to me" craft - string art.

Crafts in Cool String Art

I'd never tried string art, but looking through all of the projects in the book, I just couldn't wait to get started. The projects ranged from simple designs (like this pineapple that I made) to some more involved pieces that would need a little more preparation, but which look to be well worth the trouble.

Luckily hubby was already in the garage so was able to give me a piece of board, a tub of little nails and a hammer. I printed up the design and taped it to the board (to hold the paper in place).

I hammered in that first nail and was quite thrilled with myself. I began to get more confident in my skill with the hammer and finished placing all of the nails. It was time to add the string!

I raided my stash of embroidery cotton and chose my pineapple colours. The great thing about the patterns in 'Cool String Art' is that they show you the order in which to wind the string. Being a compete novice at this craft, this was something that I found very useful.

As it's the Easter weekend, my string art pineapple is sitting quite happily among Easter bunnies and chocolate eggs.

  13. My Dad was so into string art years ago! He put felt on a board first as the background then the nails! We are going thru my parents house (they are now in assisted living) and I'm finding floss in his workshop. It only looks out of place for someone who doesn't know my Dad! I think it's time I start it up too!
