CROCHET: Rainbow Rectangle Granny Blanket

I’ve finished my rainbow throw-size crochet blanket and it’s love, true true love. My kids have snuggled under it the last couple of evenings, though it still needs blocking to stop the edges from curling up so much.

I thought I’d share a little about the scallop edge I used to finish off this blanket. Now I’m no expert when it comes to crochet, but I thought I’d share what I did with this quite thick yarn using my yarn rainbow sprinkles yarn cake.

When I was happy with the size of my rectangle granny blanket, I did a single crochet stitch all the way around the edge. I love how the yarn colour changed at just the right time.

To create the scallops, I crocheted a *SC, then 3 DC in the next chain space, followed by a SC in the next chain space*.

I usually crochet 5 DC’s for a scallop edge, but after a little bit of trial and error, I found that 3 DC’s were the perfect number for this thick yarn.

My plan is to block this blanket over the next few days and then I can do a full reveal. At the moment, it’s a little bit wiley, wobbly, and wonky and no-body had time for these W’s!

I need to build up my skills when it comes to crochet.

What’s your favourite way to crochet your edges?

  1. I usually do a row of doubles then a 5 treble scallop on the edges but recently have started doing a lot of doubles then crab stitch. I find it gives a really firm edge, especially good for the C2C or any rugs crocheted with a bias.

    1. Thank you! You've given me something new to go and research. A new type of edge for my next blanket... because there will definitely be another blanket xx
