Ferries, Trams, Trains & Automobiles

My little man turned 9 this past week. Rather than have a big party with classmates, we thought it might be fun to spend a day doing all sorts of fun things which he'd like. His very own special "birthday treat" day.

As Sunday's are family fun days within the public transport network in Sydney, we could travel on as many or as few modes of transport for only $2.50 - all day!

So we started out by driving to FlyBoys work and parking the car there. Walked over to the train station a caught a train into Circular Quay.

Circular Quay station is always absolutely breathtaking. As soon as we step onto the platform, we see the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbour bridge.

We thought we'd head to Manly, but with an hour plus wait (in 35 degree heat) to board the ferry, we decided to board a different one which looped around to Darling Harbour and back. It was all about the transport, not the location.

We ended up catching a train to circular quay, then a ferry looping around the harbour, then a bus into the city, then a tram from Paddys markets to Darling Harbour, then a coffee break and a bIt of fun in the arcade, then another ferry back to Circular Quay, then a train back to the car and finally the drive back home.

Wow! I'm exhausted just reading that back. We stopped for lunch in Chinatown and ordered way too much food and saw a dancing dragon as we walked along.

My little man had fun. I overheard him telling his sister that it was "the best day of his life."

Gotta be happy with that sort of outcome :)

PS : we decided that next time, we might like to upgrade and go on this Carnival Spirit cruise ship rather than the ferry. It has water slides!
