Two-Tone Fabric Tote Bag

Some people love bag making. I am not one of these people. I don’t know what it is about the whole project, but making bags has always been something I’m not confortable with.

Just like zippers. They fall into the same category for me.

Urgh! Bags and zippers… and don’t even get me started on the whole idea of making a bag WITH a zipper. I fear my brain could just explode out of my ears.

Okay, I admit, that was slightly dramatic so let’s go back to the subject at hand. I made a bag. It’s a great big tote bag. It’s lined. It’s blue and pink. And I’m as pleased as punch with it.

The fabric is from a few years ago. It’s by Franchelle Contreras for Henry Glass Fabrics. I have hoarded it for years and it was about time I used it for something.

Little Miss was modelling the bag for me because there really isn’t a fabulous way to show off a bag without someone holding it, is there?

Two Fabric Tote Bag

The pattern is the Two-Tone Fabric Tote by Make it & Love it.

It really is an excellent tutorial with step by step instructions and photographs. Perfect for anyone like me, who is really not a fan of making bags.

You know, to help combat my dislike, I might just have to go and make myself another one. Little miss thinks that she might like this bag for herself.

Do you like making bags?

Do you have a favourite go-to bag pattern you can share with us?

  1. Hi Anorina,i love your new bag and it looks great on Amelia, the colours are gorgeous,i havent made a bag in ages, enjoy your day my friend.xx

    1. Thanks Shez. I do love these colours and prints too and am pleased to finally have used them on something, rather than just letting them sit of my shelf. Hope you have a fab arvo too x

  2. I love making bags and have made heaps!! I love the SewSweetness patterns for bags but for a simple bag I just cut, sew and go.
I have used a lunch bag pattern in the past so that the bag has a draw cord on the top to keep everything in.
Your bag is lovely, I really like the idea of using two different fabrics.

    1. Yes I really liked the two fabric idea, though sewing that ribbon on was probably the trickiest part of the whole process. I was flicking through the Zakka Handmades book and found the lunch bag pattern by Amy Morinaka. I might be brave and try it soon.
      Have a great afternoon x

  3. My favourite is the 241 Tote by noodlehead. I haven't tried it with the optional zip pockets yet as I hate/fear zips too but it makes a fantastic tote & a great gift. I agree you should make another. I find if I make a pattern two or three times in a short time frame I get much more efficient and kind of "figure it out" so I can then come back to it later and it kind of just flows better.

  4. I love making bags and zippered pouches, I have a couple of patterns waiting to be made but they are daunting, the amy butler weekender and the sew together bag
