Summer Stitching

We’re currently in Melbourne - enjoying spending time with my husbands parents and siblings.

The kids love, love, love being here as they get extra grandparent attention – plus they get to swim in the backyard pool, regularly!

Before leaving, I searched for some stitching to bring with me. Something that was portable that I could work on when the mood struck.

I found myself tracing designs onto my fabric, with my light box, late on the night before we left. I couldn’t NOT have something crafty to work on, now could I?

I’ve just completed this little stitched floral design and I’m so pleased with the result.

Floral Stitchery

Rather than using regular embroidery floss, I decided to use crochet cotton (sz 12) which I’d picked up at mum’s house. She had a case of all different colours which I’ve been itching to use, but never really had the right project. I’ve used some of the crochet cotton for random bits of hand quilting, but have now used it for an actual stitchery. Love it!

I have another 3 already panels, traced out and ready to go.

Summer stitching… love it!

  1. even as an adult I am still baffled when you start talking about it being summer! Here in Illinois we are just getting into winter (and I have to say it has been mild and only a touch of snow) so send the warm weather back! I love the flowers and can't wait to see what you do with them!!

  5. I don't know much about embroidery --> yet. It is on my list of crafts to learn. Is your thread variegated? If not, how do you get it to look like that?
