Bees and Swaps

I’ve been involved with a Flickr quilting bee called the “Bee in Oz”. It started at the beginning of the year and now, finally, November is my month.

If you’re not sure what a quilting bee is, well I’ll give a brief explanation.

You have a group of members (in our case it was 12). Each member is designated a month. Just before the beginning of that month, they send out packages to all of the other members. These packages include fabric and the instructions for what sort of quilt block they would like… then they sit back and wait for all of their blocks to arrive.

Sounds like fun, right?

It has been fun, plus we’ve only had 1 drop-out in the 10 months.

Well, this afternoon, I’ll be posting out these fabrics to the other members of the Bee in Oz group.

Super yummy fabrics, designs and the colours are so ‘me’. I’m asking the other members to make the Star Flower block for this month.

With any luck, I’ll have a new rainbow coloured, Star Flower block quilt for Christmas.

I’ve finished the October block which was for Linda of Stray Stitches and I will be posting it to her this afternoon.

It is called a Philadelphia Pavement block.

Linda is such a wonderful & generous person. She will be turning the blocks into little ‘Loving Hands’ quilts, which she’ll donate to her local Neonatal ICU.

If you haven’t yet, pop on over to Linda’s blog and say hello. She has a ‘fact of the day’ in her posts, which is always fun to read.

I’m a little late in showing you these hexy flowers which I received from Debra of Oh Flotsam, in the Inchy Hexy September Swap. Pretty, right?

These flowers will be going out to Cynthia of Home Matters, who is my October partner in the swap.

All up, I think I’m involved in 3 regular swaps and 1 bee.

More than enough to keep me busy.

What about you?

Do you participate in any bees or swaps?

  1. I love your bee fabric!

I am also on Flickr where I do the Christmas Block Swap, Embroidery Bee and the Pretty Little Pouch Swap. On Blogger, I'm in the Block Swap Adventure.

I know the Christmas swap and the BSA are always looking for more people!

  2. I'm only doing one swap at the moment. It's the 2011 Santa Sack Swap. I've done a few swaps over the last couple of years and have made lots of new friends. I agree with you about Linda being a very generous person. I really enjoy reading her blog and have learnt lots of things from her Fact of the Day posts.

  7. Oh I love swaps! I've been wanting to join a bee but haven't been sure how, exactly :)

I'm in three flickr swaps: pretty little pouch, a little fabric a little chocolate (deux) and the goodie bag swap. I love how they inspire me and force me to "think outside the box"
