Suggestions Please

My son’s school has one major fund raising event each year – their Spring Fair. It’s a huge event with lot’s of stalls, people, food, rides etc… Roads are closed for the event and everyone has a wonderful time.

This year, yours truly is co-ordinating the craft stall. As my son is in kindergarten, and my daughter hasn’t started school yet, I’ll probably be doing this for many years to come.

Donations have been coming into the school thick and fast. I’ve received large garbage sized bags full of fleecy fabric (tracksuit type fabric) in all sorts of shapes and colours.

I’ve started by making some wheat bags like this one.

I’ll have a prettier (& straighter) ribbon, and a little tag with microwave instructions.

I’d like to make something with this fleecy fabric other than wheat bags – suggestions are very very very welcome and truly appreciated.

A big thank you in advance!!

  1. What about a little pouch for nappies/wipes/nappy sacks. Like a baby beauty case?

  3. Callia bought a little purse (with a zip on top) last year at her school fete out of this type material. It had frills and a bow on it. Very girly. She loved it. How about pencil cases?

  4. How about small tote bags with a large button closure? If you have a die cut machine and some Bigz Sizzix flower dies, you could cut lots of flowers - attach some on bags or make brooches with them. Good luck, it all sounds like a lot of fun :)

  5. I have a lot of fleece that was used or my wedding. I've made a few teddy bears out of it (takes about 50cm square for each). You can see some here:

The face is a machine embroidery design I made up but I'm sure you could quickly applique or embroider one.

Also I just thought... mobile phone and ipad wallets!!

  6. You could make some sleep masks. The best one I ever got had a lesser amount of filling where the eyes go, and I think across the bridge of the nose, so that there was no fabric touching the eye. Then was affixed with Velcro at the back to allow for adjusting. Omg I loved that thing!!! You could put cute words or pictures on them to personalize. I bet they'd sell.

  7. Ponchos are easy but probably out of fashion! Can't think of anything that hasn't been said.

  8. My daughter bought me a neck warmer once.. it had rice in it, lavendar, cammomile, great scents so when you warm it in the microwave and put it around your neck it smells WONDERFUL.. It is more the shape of a sailor girls dress top.. that white part that would be on the top of the dress so flat in the back, and it goes over the shoulders and around the neck. Sewn in lines to keep the rice from all shifting to one end. Fill a little, sew the rice in.. fill more sew the rice in.. fill more sew the rice in etc. VERY nice. Also smaller ones are nice sock shaped to just wrap around the neck, ankle, go over the eyes.. etc.

  9. Softies (stuffed animals)? I've been pondering making a fleece dog toy.

  10. If you have any red, what about Little Red Riding Hood capes? They seem to always be a big hit with my nieces and are super easy to make.

  11. Small cuddly animals for wee ones???

  12. I like Ella's idea about the dog toys. I take fleece, make a sleeve, close the end, slide in an empty water bottle and close the other end. The whole thing is loose so the dogs can't tear it up too quickly. They love it.

  13. Here are a few ideas I had:
Superhero capes, the Red Riding Hood cape aeble suggested, Hogwarts capes.
Patch some together and make long, wide scarf/shawl for reading shawls (my kids love the one I made them)
    Pillow covers maybe?
Book covers are a big hit at Christmas Fairs around here.

  15. I was going to suggest softies or teddies too, the cape idea sounds good! Christmas stockings? What a great thing to be part of!

  16. How about library bags? I know at my kids school they can't borrow books unless they have a library bag and they love excited and cool looking bags. Hand puppets maybe or some pencil cases or some beanies for the very cold weather? Good luck!

  19. Make those socks like the Acorn brand that LL Bean sells. There is a pattern for it on-line at Clotilde. They are so wonderfully warm and wearable under boots or just around the house!
