Neon Liquorice All-Sort, An Autumn Pine and Colour Wash Scraps

Going in order of my blog post title, this is my new crochet blanket. I like to start a new one each year, especially when the weather gets cool.  I usually manage to finish that blanket before the weather heats up again.

I was at a dollar store the other day and they had a rainbow wall of new yarn. So many possibilities. The fluoro ones captured my attention (which is the purpose of fluoro, right?) so they came home with me. With the addition of the charcoal and white yarn, it started looking like a liquorice all-sort lolly, hence the name.

On a side note, did you know that there are two spellings of liquorice? I didn't until this morning.
Liquorice is British (Australian) English or licorice is American English.

Crochet is my evening project. I work on it in front of the television - or more than likely, sitting in bed, listening to an audiobook when my husband is away at work. This is how much I got done the last couple of evenings, while he's been in Dallas. The audiobook I'm listening to is 'Lying Beside You' by Michael Robotham.

I'm way behind on the Scrappiness is Happiness Sew Along and will need to made a number of blocks that I've missed so that I can put the sampler quilt together. This weeks block is a pine tree. As it's autumn here, I decided to make mine in Autumn colours. Pine trees don't change colours in the autumn, but they do in my sewing room. Hah!

In another session of time-wasting, I stumbled upon the Color Wash Scrap Quilt on Youtube.

I had started out by looking for Kaffe Fassett quilt inspiration which led me down through a rabbit-hole and before I knew it, I started sewing up little 3.5" blocks (3" finished) to make a color wash quilt.

The original pattern is by Terry Rowland (video below), but I was led to this by quilt by watching The Last Homely House videos.

I've made 5 little blocks... and only have about 700 to go! I'm aiming for Christmas 2025.

Hope you're having a happy Tuesday too.

    1. Thanks Alycia. I'm an 80's child and loved neon then too.
In the Scrappiness is Happiness book by Lori Holt (where this QAL is from) there's a large scrappy pine tree quilt, which looks fabulous.

  3. That is going to be one bright blanket when finished. I am a big fan of the LH House - when I was recommended her channel by a friend I went right back to the beginning and watched everyone of her videos.

    1. I recently just discovered the LHH YouTube channel and have only seen a few videos. I was looking for Kaffe Fassett inspiration and she shared her Seed Packet quilt. I'll have to go back and have a look at more early videos.
