It's the first Friday of the month (year!) and so I'm joining the Friday Night with Friends group tonight. Admittedly, I didn't sew one stitch, but I did look at a lot of pretty quilts on Pinterest. Sometimes, looking at so many quilts, really hampers starting my own projects.
I have some Liberty of London cotton lawn fabric in my stash. I've been hoarding it for years. It's just so lovely to touch, pretty to look at and I know that it's really quite expensive, which is why I've not been able to bring myself to cut into much of it...
... that is until tonight! I'm living life on the wild side tonight.
I cut a bundle, which my MIL brought back from London a few years ago, into 5" squares. I want to make a nice simple quilt with this fabric - something which won't have a lot of wastage. You really can't go past a simple square quilt, for ease and frugality, right?
Cutting the fabric was as far as I got tonight. I bought some lovely light blue quilters muslin at work today and I think it should work with these fabrics, as well as some 70/10 sewing machine needles. Tomorrow, I may even begin sewing some actual stitches.
What's your favourite "simple" quilt design that is frugal with fabric?

I have never bought Liberty of London because of the price - I just can't make myself spend that much - will watch to see what you make.

ReplyDeleteMy first quilt had Liberty fabrics in it - mixed with a normal patchwork fabric and home spun...the liberties wore out well before anything else did.
ReplyDeleteGood choice to keep it simple - I think the fabrics should be kept in a big piece to showcase them...or a disappearing 9 patch would be another choice.
Liberty fabric is very busy so a simple patchwork would showcase the fabric rather than take away from it. I am sure whatever you do will look lovely. Unfortunately, I never got to visit Liberty when I was in London a few years ago. So much to see in such little time.

ReplyDeleteWould you believe... I've had a package of Liberty fat quarters for about five years - won in an Instagram giveaway - and I've never used them. Not sure I see the appeal. Guess I've never been much of a "floral" person. In any case, I think it's great that you love Liberty fabrics and are making the most of yours with the quilt you plan to make. "Waste not" is a good motto. I like to make baby quilts with alternating 6" square blocks. Simple and easy. Have fun with your project!
