FNwF - November 2021

I joined Friday Night with Friends, hosted by Cheryl of Gone Stitchin', for a little bit of English Paper Piecing.

I've been working on these scrappy rainbowy hexie flower blocks throughout the year as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I have a large pile of hexies appliqued on to black and white print backgrounds.

I had a pack of 2" hexagon papers so thought I'd make a few bigger scrappy hexagons, which should work when I put this whole quilt together.

My Friday night sewing was cut short as we went out to dinner with friends. It was really great to be out for a meal and to be able to chat and catch up. We went to a restaurant which we frequented often before the lockdown earlier this year. It was a place that was always crowded and bookings essential. Last night, it was very quiet, especially as it was a Friday night. The weather wasn't brilliant with lots of rain, but I wonder if people are still hesitant about going out...

Visit Gone Stitchin' to see what everyone else got up to last night.

Thought I'd share a couple of other pictures I took this week of happenings around here.

A neighbour down the street has two large bushes of these flowering natives. I walk past every day when I take Charlie out and always admire them. I finally got a picture. They look like some sort of waratah? Perhaps my more plant knowledgeable friends can let me know what these are.

Speaking of Charlie... we bought him a Santa outfit the other day. I can't say that he's a fan of wearing the outfit, especially the hat (with lights) the goes with it.

It is the season for flowering trees. The Jacaranda trees are all in glorious purple bloom along with the Illawarra Flame Trees. This beauty is at my kids school. I drop them off every morning and I couldn't resist a picture before it loses all of its flowers.

Cricut contacted me asking if I'd be interested in trying out their new Cricut Maker 3 machine and sharing my thoughts and a couple of projects. I've never used a Cricut before, so said yes I'd love to give it a try.

There is so much to learn along with thousands of online tutorials to work out how to use it, but it does look like a lot of fun with limitless possibilities.

  4. Your hexies look so pretty. I like how you did the backgrounds in black & white. Poor Santa Charlie. You're right -- he doesn't look like he's got the Christmas spirit in that get-up. Ha!

  5. Do you know what breed your Charlie is? Our Murphy could be his twin, with the exception of Murphy's plume-like tail. (We don't know what Murphy is, but guess he's part long-haired Doxie.)

  7. Your hexagons look great... yes I agree with others that the plant is likely a pincushion protea..... hails from South Africa but do very well here too.

  10. Your hexies are looking lovely, I like the thought of using the bigger ones along with the small ones - will they be an outer border? Nice that you got to have dinner out. It will be interesting to see you using the Cricut...lucky you having the opportunity.

  13. The plant is from the protea family of leucospermum. We recently brought several from our local Bunnings store.
