Custom Cushion: Babcia

A quick visit to the blog today to share this new custom cushion. This 'Babcia' cushion was ordered by a friend whose Polish grandmother has a big birthday coming up soon. Babcia is grandmother in Polish.

The fabric is an older range that I had in my stash. It was designed by the late Rosalie Dekker and is called Paper Garden. It's a beautiful cotton/linen blend. I had a few half yards of this range so was able to use a coordinating fabric for the back.

Now speaking of the back... I found another great concealed zipper tutorial online which I used on this cushion. The tutorial I used for the hidden zipper is by Ameroonie Designs and you can find it here. The tutorial takes you through step by step, including photos couple with excellent written instructions. I will certainly be using this tutorial again in future.

I have a few orders lined up for Christmas so I'd best get busy sewing.

  1. This is a really pretty pillow. The prints you chose for it are lovely, and look sort of grandmotherly. When I've made pillows with zippers, I've always put them in the side, where the front meets the back. I'll have to give this a try sometime, though I don't often make pillows. Nice for you to have some orders and a little pin-money coming in before the holidays. Enjoy making!
