The other day, I was looking through and reading blog on my list. I came across a blog post by Teresa at Stitchin Friends about a book she had about tile quilting. It's not something I'd heard of before, so was quite interested in learning more.
As luck would have it, the same book was available digitally through my local library (our libraries are all still closed due to the lockdown) so I borrowed it and had a look through.
The book is called Tile Quilt Revival and is by Carol Gilham Jones and Bobbi Finley. In this book, the authors show us how to create tile blocks which look like mosaics. At the end of the book, there are a couple of patterns for us to recreate. |

I decided then and there to jump right in and have a go. I printed up a block (possibly not the easiest block now that I think about it) and got started.
The first step was to trace the pattern to freezer paper and then cut out the shapes.
At this stage, I'm basting the pieces to the background white fabric with a 1/4" seam. This way, when I turn them under to stitch down, the seam will be 1/8" - well this is the theory. These white bits between the shapes will look like the grout between tiles.
I'll keep you posted on how I go.

ReplyDeleteI'm not a bit surprised that you and I follow Teresa. She makes lovely things! But how cool that you could find this book digitally, and use it as you are1 Wow. I'll be interested to see how you go with this project. Just a word of caution though... in case it's the same there as it is here - once you check out a digital craft book, you're unable to check it out again. I tried, and that's what I learned. Hoping it isn't the same for you.

I will look at this book. I am so terrible with hand sewing, and I do have a sizable pile to take with me next Thursday when I take my dad for his tooth implant... 3 hours. I will be sewing binding and doing some EPP as well
