Highs and Lows of 2020 Quilt {Progress}

Progress on my Orange Peel Temperate Quilt of 2020

Sewing-wise, it's been a fairly quiet week for me, with only a pile of leaf blocks to share with you.

I'll continue to make a few more of these little blocks before I sew more rows together and watch the quilt have a growth spurt. It's nice to see the quilt grow when I've been focussing on the small pieces that fit into my hand.

Last week, I bought some orange spice thread balm from Sharon of Lilabelle Lane Creations. I had been using beeswax when hand sewing but for some reason, it's kind of dried out and gotten quite crunchy.

This thread balm is just lovely to hand sew with. I missed out on buying some last time that Sharon had this thread balm in her store, so as soon as I'd seen she'd stocked up on more, I was quick to purchase. I highly recommend it for hand sewing and tangle-free thread.

  2. Anorina, your temp quilt is really sweet. You picked the right colors. This will be an epic memory quilt, and especially with this stupid covid.
    Well done!

  3. Not too many days left of this year to go now. Are you marking where each month starts?

  5. 2020 was full of highs and lows. Only if they were half as pretty as your temperature quilt the world would be a better place. I am sure it will be a show-stopper of a finish.

  8. Your quilt is gonna be so pretty! Each little leaf patch is just a gem. You know, I have thread wax - the brand is Sew Fine, and it comes in a variety of scents - but I often forget to use it! Also, because I EPP with Bottom Line 60-weight polyester, I don't think poly needs to be (or should be) waxed. Glad you found a good replacement for the plain stuff!

  10. Your orange peel quilt is looking fantastic, and thanks for the tip about the Thread Balm. I used to use Thread Heaven but can't find it anymore. Does your Thread Balm really smell like spiced orange? Because the only thing better than tangle-free stitching is tangle-free stitching with a side of aromatherapy!
