Scrappy Happy Rainbow Quilt - FINISH




Ta-da! My 'Scrappy Happy Rainbow Quilt' is finished and I am so very happy with how it turned out. This project began brewing in my mind a few years ago as a good way to use up A LOT of scraps from my fabric tubs. Once I'd divided them up into colour groups, putting it all together was pretty easy.
I took this project quite slowly and decided to sew up colour blocks weekly. Some colour blocks only took a couple of hours to sew together, though some have a lot more pieces and extend out to two rows. These took a little longer, but honestly, not THAT long. It's totally do-able and a great way to make some sewing time each week.

Other than that gorgeous black and white stripe binding which I bought a little while ago from Connecting Threads; and the backing which was on sale for about $3/m from Ikea, this whole quilt was made from scraps of old projects. Glow in the dark Star Wars fabric is happily sewn in beside delicate floral Japanese lawn prints. It's crazy how happy this makes me.

 I used the white cotton thread from Connecting Threads, which my machine absolutely loved! Sometimes, when I use the more expensive cotton thread, it snaps and snags a lot, but this stuff is so much cheaper and worked with my machine happily. A wonderful partnership indeed.

The quilt is perfect for a double bed and even though my daughter thinks she might like this quilt for herself, I'm going to give it to one of her friends for her upcoming birthday.

 I know that her mother likes 'handmade things' so I know that it will be appreciated and loved. That's the best thing when you give a handmade gift - knowing that it will be used and loved.

    What a beautiful quilt! Love how you put all the same colour fabrics together into blocks, then sewed them all together into this delicious looking quilt!
