Have you visited the Fortworth Fabric Studio Blog lately? If you haven’t, you must stop on over there very soon. Lindsey creates and shares so many wonderful tutorials regularly.
I’m a part of a FB craft group. It began many years ago on a forum, in the days before Facebook, and now most of us are in this group and it’s a lovely place for everyone to catch up on the latest creations. One of the members organised a little swap for those of us who were interested. Me, being a bit of a sucker for a swap, joined in. We were to make the Orange Slice Mug Rug, created by Lindsey Weight, for our partners.
I decided to have a little go at making a Liberty version of the Orange Slice Mug Rug. The pattern is easy to follow and can honestly be made up with any fabrics you like… including Liberty.
I machine appliqued the “slices” and then after sandwiching the layers, I added a little hand quilting around the pieces and around the edge beside the binding.
I then made the mug rug for my partner in her desired citrus colours. Are “slices” are a couple of prints from the Modern Mini’s range by Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs.
To make this mug rug, I sandwiched the layers (including 2 layers of batting) and quilted with a wavy stitch which is a standard on my machine. I then positioned, fused and appliqued the “slices” onto the quilted fabric. I do like that the slices aren’t quilted and really “pop”.
This is the mug rug (below) which I received from my partner. It’s already got a new home under my oil burner.
Just going off topic a little, how good are Yankee Candle wax melts?!?!?! The one I have in there at the moment is called Apple Spice and it smells absolutely delicious. Every so often, I get a little waft of that lovely scent and it makes me just so very happy.
When tracing up the “slices” to my fusible paper, I’d prepared a few extras and decided to make some smaller coasters with them. Two “slices" together make a sweet heart shape.
I’ve since joined another swap - this one is to make a patchwork zippy pouch. My partner loves little florals (just like me) so I’ll be dipping into my stash of Japanese Lawn fabrics.
Have you joined a crafty swap recently?
Oh my, what sweet eye candy, Anorina! Each of these projects are gorgeous and sewn by creative souls. The last swap I joined was a Rail Fence block swap and I plan on making a lovely table runner with mine. Now I need to look up this pattern. I love this!
ReplyDeleteHi Anorina ,wow love these, such pretty fabrics used and such a fun swap xx
ReplyDeleteI love your orange slice mug rug... even went to Fort Worth and liked them and found the template and printed it off so I can try my hand at one! Thanks for the heads up on them too :) I really enjoy your blog and loved the coaster you made with only 2 of them as well... have a blessed rest of your week! Kathi P. S. I rarely do crafty swaps... but I love making for others!
ReplyDeleteFunny you should ask about swaps we've joined ... I've been taking a break after the year-long birthday swap we both did last year plus an annual Christmas swap ... then just 5 minutes ago I signed up for a Christmas in July swap. Your projects are gorgeous, Anorina - I particularly like your little heart.
