Weird Love – Mini Quilt

My brother in law will marry his sweetheart this weekend.

They’re very much suited to each other and I’m sure they will remain together, forever.

The wedding invitation had a little quote on the back. I love making handmade, personal gifts so my MIL suggested I use the quote in a handmade gift.

Here is the end result which is entitled Weird Love - Mini Quilt.

Weird Love

The couple have a bit of a purple obsession, so I hand quilted around each of the flowers in Dark Purple Perle 8 cotton. This mini quilt is also bound with solid dark purple prima homespun. I purchased both the floral fabric (which I absolutely love and wish I had bought more of) and the purple Prima Homespun from Spotlight.

Weird Love 2

I shared the Weird Love - Mini Quilt progress via Instagram and received great feedback on the quote. It seems there are a lot of people who really liked it and felt a connection with it.

The wording in the stitchery is actually part of a quote by Robert Fulghum:

“We’re all a little weird. And life is a little weird. And when we find someone whose weirdness is compatible with ours, we join up with them and fall into mutually satisfying weirdness—and call it love—true love.”

I typed up the quote in a word document and then played around with the settings and fonts until I was pleased it.

I ended up laying out the page in landscape, used the narrowest margins and chose the Segoe Print font (as large as it would go, without going onto a second page).

The border floral fabric is 5” wide all the way around.

I really hope they love it as much as I loved making it. Hand quilting makes me so happy and the resulting texture of this mini quilt is just lovely.

What is the best hand made gift you’ve ever received?

  2. That's a great quote isn't it? They will love what you've done for sure! When I had my first son Kieran my aunty gave me a lovely log cabin quilt (in my pre-quilting days!). It got used so much and I have it folded up in the top cupboard for one day when he has children!

  3. Great quote. I love that fabric. I just bought 2 metres for myself to make a bag with. I lined the bag with a grey fabric and it looks great. Will show it eventually. Enjoy the wedding!!
