I started this project a while back and have today, FINALLY finished it. A great big hooooray! I can’t show you the whole thing right now – just a sneaky little peek.
The fabrics I used were Tea Garden by Dena Fishbein and some Picnic and Fairgrounds by Denyse Schmidt. The white fabric is Kona cotton.

It was finished with some hand quilting in red and white. I love the finish that hand quilting gives a project… but the back isn’t so pretty. I think I need more practise.

Do you enjoy hand quilting?
What tips can you give a newbie hand quilter?
I LIKE TO USE A BEE BAR LOTION ON MY HANDS PRIOR TO HAND QUILTING. HONEY HOUSE NATURALS+THERE ARE OTHERS TOO THAT SELL IT. OTHER THAN THAT I THINK PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT LIKE WITH SO MANY THINGS. A PROJECT SURE IS BEAUTIFUL WHEN IT'S HAND QUILTED, ISN'T IT! HAPPY QUILTING!
ReplyDeleteThat is very pretty, Anorina, your quilting stitches look great in red. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the look of this. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteThat looks so pretty and the red stitching looks really neat! I've done a bit of hand quilting, and if I've got the front neat I don't worry too much about the back, cause I know I'll never be as neat as a sewing machine!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried hand quilting - my stitches would be all different lengths and heading in different directions!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with yours.
Gorgeous! I don't seem to have the patience for hand quilting although I have done some before I had babies. I was worried that my stitches were too big, but I realise now that they were fine and I shouldn't have sat next to the most experienced quilter in the class! Her stitches were tiny.
ReplyDeleteOhh cant wait to see the final piece, love the colours and red thread. I think hand quilting just takes practise, the right needle, thimble and cotton...once you find what suits you, it makes it soo much easier.. I love the thimbleladys thimble, and her needles, have broken a few thou ..
ReplyDeleteLove your block--AND your hand quilting! Your stitches are nice and even on top--and who is going to look at the back?
ReplyDeleteI never got the hang of "rocking the needle" and got very frustrated with hand quilting. I love the look.
