A Diamond Hexi

A little bit of English paper piecing in the evenings and I've come up with this hexi made of diamonds. I'm not sure if this block has a specific name, but I'm calling it a "Diamond Hexi". I came across it in an old magazine which I'd bought at a book fair. If anyone knows the name of this block, please let me know.

I'm quite pleased with the result and think this could be a fantastic way to use up scraps - my scrap basket needs some serious attention.
I'm going to keep it as a mini quilt and probably hang it in my sewing room. I'm thinking a red spotty binding - what do you think?

  2. Funny timing that you've discovered this! I just came across this video yesterday... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2nkCdciXDa8

Love the fussy cuts you made on the diamonds! Well done! Did you just cut your own templates or did you buy them?

  4. I think it is the hexagon star. Kaffe uses it in one of his books with a modern twist. It is a beautiful block and I am making a larger scale one for my niece.

  6. I love this. It's fabulous. Once I finish my current hexie quilt, I may have to make one of these.

  7. It is a six point star. If you make it in light medium and darks with some hexies having the light, some the dark and some the medium outside you get stars and babyblocks all over your quilt. Jinny Beyer describe this in her book, Scrap quilts.

I have just quilted mine- I have pieced it 20 years ago by hand but not with the paper piecing method.
