Sunday Catch Up

Something unusual happened yesterday... I went into my sewing room and did some sewing. It's really become a rarity round these parts, so it's certainly worth blogging about.

This block is a section of Part 3 in the 'Gossip in the Garden' quilt pattern by Anni Downes. I'm so pleased that I decided to re-start this quilt and complete it all in machine applique rather than needle turn. Much quicker results and with so little time (and oomph), it's good to have something to show/share.

I visited with mum during the week for coffee and chit-chat. As I was about to leave, she showed me around her garden. Lot's of new plants and flowers beginning to bloom.

She has a plant called 'Pride of Madeira' which has started to bloom. The little purple flowers are grown on large cones and the bees ABSOLUTELY love them. I think we need one of these plants at our place to attract more bees to help pollinate our spring veggie patch.

In other news, we had a delivery through the week and the empty box was on the floor for about 0.005 seconds before Chester was sitting in it. What is it about cats and boxes?

  1. Lovely block. Sometimes I get bogged down in projects that take so much time they become a burden, and also sometimes the reward isn't worth the effort. Enjoy your sewing. x

  3. I love this block.
I am always happier to machine applique these days, I just do not have free hands during the day. There are times when that is great, but for me, no hands time available not haha
Chester is so sweet. The kitties love the boxes. Mine do too. maybe they also like to investigate the smells.

  7. Your applique is lovely! And your cat photo reminds me of a children's book from when I was little called "My Cat Likes to Hide in Boxes." It was from the 1960s or 1970s, by Eve Sutton, and it had the most fabulous repetition, rhyme, and illustrations of cats hiding in all kinds of boxes. There's a reissue now in board book format that I just found on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/My-Cat-Likes-Hide-Boxes/dp/0141329610. In case you have any little ones on your gifting list! :-)

  10. I haven't done machine appliqué in ages! Yours looks good, and you're so right about it being faster than needle turn by hand. All those bobbin colors look pretty! And I love your mother's plant. Agree that you need it in your yard, if only for that pretty purple color!
