Fresh Diamonds Quilt

Fresh Diamonds in "Icicle" by Kathy Engle for Island Batik
My Fresh Diamonds quilt was born eight years ago - it was the first quilt I designed that was published in a magazine. Yay!

It feels like only yesterday that I was cutting into some beautiful Bonnie & Camille fabric charm packs. It was these little precut fabric bundles that really got me interested in learning about patchwork and quilting.

I remember making Fresh Diamonds and laying it all out on the floor in the front room of our first house - that was 3 houses ago.

Fresh Diamonds is perfect for quilters who love making half square triangles. I've always wanted to make another Fresh Diamonds, but I just haven't got around to it... yet.

I did a google search and found quite a few Fresh Diamonds quilts made by other quilters. I love seeing all of the different colourways and fabrics which people have used in their projects.

Back when I designed this quilt, I'd worked it all out on graph paper - but I thought why not 'get with the times' and make it up on EQ8. Gosh, it was so much faster and lots of fun to see how it would look in the different fabrics available from Electric Quilt.

  1. Another quilt going on my list of "must do". I love all the versions but the one you just did on EQ has me totally inspired to make something similar. Such a lovely pattern you have created!

  5. Makes me very nostalgic going through all your beautiful quilts. I used to quilt about ten years ago, did quite a few too but have not gone back to it. Maybe time to dust off the machine.

  7. It's always fun to see a design in different colour ways - the darker background creates quite a different effect.

  8. Such a variety when the fabrics are placed "just so".
I found your regenerate tree block - I made a number of blocks for WMQG but sadly didn't see this pattern - could have made so many more. I wont say "next time" but I love tree blocks so will hang onto it..strictly for personal use - thanks for the pattern.
