Chunky Monkey Quilt (+ FREE pattern)

The flu has hit me pretty hard this week. Luckily it has been only me who been feeling unwell and not the rest of my family. What with a runny nose and general aches and pains, I didn't get too much crafting done this week... well, except for this new baby quilt. Hah!

The pattern is based on my Chunky Monkey Quilt which was published in Handmade Magazine last year.

In the original quilt, I used the super cute 'Toy Chest' fabric range by fabric manufacturer, Penny Rose Studio, which I love, love, love. It's just perfect for a little one with bright colours and cute little animal prints. That actual magazine quilt was gifted to a baby girl a few months back , so I thought I'd use that same pattern to make another one for my great-nephew.

Toy Chest 3 is available from the Fat Quarter Shop

I don't usually make the same quilt more than once or twice, but this quilt comes together so quickly and easily, it was a no-brainer (especially when you've got a fuzzy brain to start with).

To make this smaller baby version of Chunky Monkey, I used a FQ bundle which I'd bought at Aldi back in May. I loved the colours and prints and thought they'd be perfect for a little boy - I just knew when I bought it, I'd be using it to make something for this little guy who wasn't even born at the time (he was born in July).

The quilt top came together in an afternoon and the next day I sashed, quilted and bound it. Super quick and easy!  Today I'll give it a wash and run it through the dryer for that lovely, soft, quilty feel then finally add a label.

    1. Thank you Shez. I hope the baby's mum likes it and uses it, rather than just put it away in a drawer somewhere.
