Lazy weekend with cake and crochet

When the urge to crochet is strong, you just have to go with it.

Crochet: Moss Stitch Shawl

It was a glorious weekend with absolutely no plans. Hubby was on stand-by for work and ended up getting called out to do a bunch of domestic flights which meant that it was just me and the kids.

On Saturday, my sister and nephews came over for a visit. It had been a while since we'd chatted and it was lovely to catch up.

She is a very talented crafter and can usually master anything she sets her mind to. She brought over her knitting to work on. At the moment she's knitting a lovely red jumper for my littlest nephew. It's quite intricate and looks way too hard for me to even contemplate. I can't knit, but I was able to supply buttons for the top of the jumper from my great big stash of buttons.

That evening, I decided to start a new project. It was cold and I thought, why no make myself a shawl? It'd been watching YouTube videos and found the moss stitch (or linen stitch) shawl which I really liked the look of. It's an easy project to work, especially while watching television.

Armed with a bag of mill-ends (which I'd bought from Spotlight some time in the past couple of years), I set to work. It works up quickly and I really quite like how the change in lilac shades is happening. It's a little bit scrappy looking and you know me - I love a scrappy look.

Yesterday, after forcing the kids out for the morning, we were free to do whatever. One child set up a section in his room (green screen and all) to make a stop motion video. The other had a neighbour over. I enjoyed watching the last few episodes of 'The Good Fight' on SBS on Demand and working on my shawl.

At this rate, I might have a finished shawl before the cold-front arrives later this week!
