52 Frames : Sky

This week's 52Frames photography challenge theme was 'sky'.

Knowing me, I'd probably just shoot a picture of a landscape with lots of sky in the frame. But I'm using this challenge as a way to grow. I'm trying to learn new skills and attempting to refresh the way I look at the world.

I learned a little bit about shutter speed this week, so every time I was out in my back garden with my camera, I was on the look out for birds or butterflies flying by so that I could try to capture their photo.

This sunset picture (above) was taken late one evening after the sun had dipped below the mountain and was casting it's final rays.
I saw the birds take off so aimed and was lucky enough to catch them in the frame. I must admit, I was quite pleased with myself when I saw the birds on my computer screen.

The next photos were of my little girl. It had been a rainy few days and the sun cleared in the afternoon. Not knowing what else the weather was going to throw at me for the rest of the week, I got her to come outside for a little photo shoot. She's of the 'selfie' generation and is a girl who doesn't mind having her picture taken.

The breeze had picked up so we got a photo where she's facing the wind and we got that 'windswept' look. I did try to make the sky take up the largest proportion of the shot. To get all of this sky, I was sitting on the driveway trying to get only sky in the shot, not the neighbouring houses. We would have looked a little bit silly to any cars that happened to drive by.

This shot was on the other side of the front garden where the wind was swirling around and making her hair do crazy things. Again, she was up higher than I was so we managed to get a lot of 'sky' in the frame. I do love this picture.

This last shot is a little more difficult to see, but is of the sky reflected on the bonnet of my car. I was rushing out to take the kids to school and we were running late. But then I saw the reflected sky and thought I'd better grab my phone and take quick picture, otherwise by the time I got back home, the moment would be gone.

I hope you've enjoyed looking at my "sky" challenge pictures. I did take dozens more, but these were my favourites.

It's not too late to join the weekly photo challenge and it really is a lot of fun. And if you're too busy one week, you can always skip it. No pressure!

Visit 52frames.com for more details and to sign up. If you do sign up, let me know. I'd love to have more friends in the group.

This weeks challenge is 'candid setup' so I'm going to have to get my thinking cap on, and keep my camera handy.
