Salvaging the scraps

I received this gorgeous parcel from Kelly of @TheQuiltingMachine for our Aussie Xmas Swap over Instagram. Are you on Instagram? It's honestly, one of my favourite places to visit, when I've got my phone and a little bit of time. Come and join me there (@SameliasMum).

It's just perfect and I absolutely adore all of the lovely handmade items and sweet extras. That pouch is just gorgeous and I just know that I'll use it to hold some sewing bits and pieces, when I'm out and about this summer.

Each of the items came wrapped in the beautiful pieces of floral fabric (I think it's Regent Street by Moda) and tied with thin strips of Christmas tree prints fabric.

Being a bit of a hoarder, who can't handle throwing anything fabric-y away, I pressed and turned these strips...

... into this thread basket. The top raw edges need finishing, but I'm tempted to just leave it as is. I think the word I'm looking for, is "rustic" (or lazy).

To break up the print, I did use a couple of bits of linen which were salvaged from trimming around this embroidered tree ornament.

Waste not, want not. Right?

Are you a scrap hoarder too?

  1. So am I, but love to turn them into usable items. It's the frugal quilter in me, I guess. I adore your last basket.
