Liberty Star Pillow #EPPSewAlong

Over the last few weeks, The Fat Quarter Shop hosted the #EPPSewAlong over on Instagram. Now, in all honesty, I’m a sucker for any type of sew along. I always begin with the best of intentions with big plans and visions of what my finished project will look like… and then, life gets busy, I fall behind (still with the best of intentions to catch-up). Then the next shiny thing comes along, a lovely new sew along and I’m sucked in… and so this circle is repeated. Does this sound familiar to anyone but me?

Anyways, back to the pillow. The Fat Quarter Shop hosted a sew along on IG to create an English paper pieced diamond star. Every couple of days, Kimberley would share photos and videos with instructions.  I know how to EPP, so even though I didn’t need to follow the instructions, just seeing them on my IG was a great reminder to continue with my project.

I used Liberty fabrics for the paper pieced diamonds (visit Ava and Neve for a beautiful selection of Liberty Fabrics in Australia). I then appliqued the star on to an indigo washed linen by Kaufman. I have a whole bolt of this linen, which was a lucky find on eBay.

I was going to make it into a mini quilt, but decided that perhaps a cushion would get more use in my house, plus I’d get to see it more often.

All along, my intention had been to hand quilt it. My sewing machine had been in for a service while we were away for the school holidays, and I was itching to use it again, so I decided to machine quilt it on the diagonal using the edge of the diamond shapes as my guide.

I’m quite pleased with the result and it’s now the ‘New Cushion on the Couch’, which means no-one is allowed to sit on it just yet.
