"Plus and a Dash" Quilt

Cultivate is the lovely new line of fabrics by Bonnie Christine for Art Gallery Fabrics. The prints are earthy and inspired by the garden.

Admittedly, I’d never made a whole quilt with Art Gallery Fabrics before. Can I just say, wow! Art Gallery Fabrics are fine and soft and drape so beautifully. If you have the opportunity to sew with them, I really recommend you do.

After playing around with block ideas, I came up with this block, which I’ve called "Plus and a Dash"… it is a combination of a plus block and a churn dash. Honestly, I don’t know if it’s already an actual block with an actual name, but seeing as I made this up on EQ7 with my own measurements, I’m calling it the ‘Plus and a Dash’.

The blocks came together quickly and after playing around with the blocks, I really liked this ‘on-point’ layout. When blocks are positioned ‘on-point’, I really think that they change up the whole look of the quilt. The pluses in the middle turned into crosses.

  1. There are many variations of the Churn Dash Block and Plus block, and this is certainly a lovely combination of these motifs.
But please be aware that I published a pattern called Plus Dash back in April, in which the Churn Dash motif is more easily recognizable, which you can see here: http://thecolorfulfabriholic.blogspot.com/2015/04/plus-dash-pattern.html.
Would you please consider changing the name of your pattern? Thank you. Jan O at The Colorful Fabriholic
