Grease is the Word

On Thursday, I was invited along to the opening night of “Grease is the Word” at Sydney’s Lyric Theatre. This theatre is located within “The Star” casino precinct. It’s not often that flyboy and I get to go out, kid free, especially on a week night, but an opening night invitation was too hard to resist. We dropped the kids at my parents house for a sleep-over and headed up to Sydney for a fun evening.

Grease is the Word is the new multi million production, based on the original stage show. Rob Mills is definitely the star of the show as Danny Zucco and Gretel Scarlett is just beautiful as Sandy. They make a gorgeous couple on stage and certainly belt out the tunes perfectly.

Bert Newton is Vince Fontaine and Todd McKenney makes a hilariously flamboyant appearance as Teen Angel. Even Anthony Callea makes an appearance, as Johnny Casino. Anthony Callea is just a brilliant singer and I’ve loved him since he first appeared on Australian Idol.

Grease is an old favourite and I must have seen the film about a squillion times. I (and most of the audience) sang along to all of the songs. We clapped. We cheered. We stomped. We wanted more. And all too soon, the night came to an end.

If you have the opportunity, you must go and see Grease is the Word. It’s such a fun musical and you won’t be disappointed. Grease is the Word is showing in Sydney until just before Christmas and then heads to Melbourne in the new year. I bought tickets a few months back and will be going again in November.

What is your favourite song in Grease?

I think I like Summer Lovin’ best… Or maybe Hopelessly Devoted.
