Life is Better with Friends : Mini Quilt {Week 6/52}

It’s week 6 in our 52 week scrap challenge. Can you believe we’re up to our 6th scrappy project already? Time surely flies, when you’re faving fun – right?

How are you going with your scrap projects? I hope you’re enjoying some of the ideas I’ve been sharing.

Today, we’re going to do some stitching and a little bit of raw edge applique. I love both of these skills and I hope you enjoy working on this little quilt.

This pattern is available to download HERE and I’ve included a couple of (VERY) roughly drawn birds – though feel free to draw your own birds.

The words and line (on which the birds are sitting) are all back-stitched and the birds have been arranged and adhered onto the background with some fusible web (vliesofix).

I have then lowered the feed dogs on my sewing machine, changed to my darning foot and black thread. I have then straight stitched twice along the outside edge of the birds.

Applique birds

The eyes, legs and tail feathers have been free motion stitched… giving them a fun, handmade appearance. If you’d like your finish to be tidier, you can always draw the eyes, tails etc with a blue, disappearing ink pen.

This is truly a fun project and I hope you have a go at making one. You can choose all of your favourite pretty fabric scraps for your birdies.

    Think I might need to add this to my "make this for my sewing room" list.
    I might even get up the courage to try free motion stitching too.
