Kick off the BBQ Season {GIVEAWAY CLOSED}

Giveaway is now Closed.
Emails have been sent to the winners: Alison, Elizabeth, Kerry, Alicia, Daniela.

BBQ season is just around the corner here in Australia. Admittedly, I don’t find the long, hot, sweaty days overly appealing, but I do love a good old summer time BBQ.

Last minute gatherings with friends and neighbours for a few drinks and some no fuss dinner (cooked outside ofcourse) epitomises a summer evening around here.

And what better way to get the BBQ started, than with McCormick Seasonings. I was sent a care pack from McCormick's the other day. Actually, that parcel delivery was the first ever to my new house. Being that I love to receive parcels and products to review, it may just stay ingrained in my memory, for a little while yet.

Firstly, we tried the McCormick Native Herb and Spice Marinade in a bag which were a hit with the kids. I did wonder if they’d like it, or whether it would be a little spicy for them, but I needn’t have worried. The blend of tomato and paprika with native mountain pepper, lemon myrtle and oregano wasn’t over powering and the whole family enjoyed it. The full McCormick Marinade in a Bag range is available in Coles supermarkets nationally for RRP $2.99.

The next evening, we made Mediterranean Chicken Pizza with Basil using the McCormick Grill Mates Mediterranean chicken seasoning. This seasoning is perfect, sprinkled on chicken thighs and then BBQed but we went in a different direction and had it on pizza. Oh boy, was this one yummy! And best of all, everyone ate it. Even the fussy youngest person of the house.

I bought some chicken thighs and cut them into bite sized pieces, browned them in a pan with a little bit of olive oil and a sprinkle of the seasoning. I then spread tomato paste on the base, added the chicken, some sliced red capsicum, sliced red onion, a sprinkle of cheese and a few basil leaves.

A few minutes in the oven and Voila!

Takeaway can get very expensive, plus I don’t know exactly what is in the pizza, so making pizza at home is my preferred option… and the kids don’t mind either.

I even made the pizza base, using this recipe.

  1. My favourite thing about summer is the smell of cut grass and of course bbqs!!!

  2. I love finally having warm toes at night

  3. That pizza does look yummy! Besides having BBQ's (there's nothing better than a BBQ), I love that it's lighter at night so you can spend more time outside. On the domestic side, I love that you can put the washing out on the line and it will be dry in no time. No more clothes hanging on clothes horses inside!

  4. The love of eating outdoors and escaping the four walls of home

  5. I love inviting people over for a BBQ by the pool, we put on music, a big spread of food and most of the time it goes all day long and sometimes into the night, so much fun, and relaxing!

  6. Daylight Savings, warm nights, bbq's and picnics, eating cold juicy watermelon on a hot summers day, icy poles and ice creams at the beach.

  7. Sorry I did it again. And entered for Australia only. I guess I'm going to have to move to Australia....Please ignore my entries.

  8. Love eating them neat dribbling over the sink,
Fruit salad, cheesecakes or a smooth healthy drink.
    100% summer, zero detrimental…
    I love summer's MANGOES! Fundamental!

  9. I love most things about summer -- except the humidity! Less clothes, long days, longer drying time for washing, swimming pool, open windows, ... The list goes on!

  10. The best things about Summer are eating watermelon while sitting on the freshly cut grass, listening to the giggles coming from my grand daughter while she plays under the sprinkler and having the hubbie cook outside on the barbie while I enjoy a beverage sitting on the verandah. Thanks for my chance Sharyn:)

  11. The extra sunshine that gives me more light for playtime!

  12. Relaxing on a white sandy beach, picnic hamper (with some wine in reach). Family around, kids happy at play. The beach + great weather is what I love about summer days!

  13. I love putting ice in all my drinks! Whether it be cold water, fresh orange juice, fizzy drink or white wine, I love the clink of ice cubes and how refreshed and revitalised they make me feel!
