BBQ season is just around the corner here in Australia. Admittedly, I don’t find the long, hot, sweaty days overly appealing, but I do love a good old summer time BBQ.
Last minute gatherings with friends and neighbours for a few drinks and some no fuss dinner (cooked outside ofcourse) epitomises a summer evening around here.
And what better way to get the BBQ started, than with McCormick Seasonings. I was sent a care pack from McCormick's the other day. Actually, that parcel delivery was the first ever to my new house. Being that I love to receive parcels and products to review, it may just stay ingrained in my memory, for a little while yet.
Firstly, we tried the McCormick Native Herb and Spice Marinade in a bag which were a hit with the kids. I did wonder if they’d like it, or whether it would be a little spicy for them, but I needn’t have worried. The blend of tomato and paprika with native mountain pepper, lemon myrtle and oregano wasn’t over powering and the whole family enjoyed it. The full McCormick Marinade in a Bag range is available in Coles supermarkets nationally for RRP $2.99.
The next evening, we made Mediterranean Chicken Pizza with Basil using the McCormick Grill Mates Mediterranean chicken seasoning. This seasoning is perfect, sprinkled on chicken thighs and then BBQed but we went in a different direction and had it on pizza. Oh boy, was this one yummy! And best of all, everyone ate it. Even the fussy youngest person of the house.
I bought some chicken thighs and cut them into bite sized pieces, browned them in a pan with a little bit of olive oil and a sprinkle of the seasoning. I then spread tomato paste on the base, added the chicken, some sliced red capsicum, sliced red onion, a sprinkle of cheese and a few basil leaves.
A few minutes in the oven and Voila!
Takeaway can get very expensive, plus I don’t know exactly what is in the pizza, so making pizza at home is my preferred option… and the kids don’t mind either.
I even made the pizza base, using this recipe.
