Best Friends Quilt

I finished a quilt. Big gigantic yaaaaay!

Best Friends Quilt - Flat

The quilt top has been finished for ages. I’m pretty sure I started it in June or July. But… I’d been using my quilting frame as a storage area, rather than to quilt beautiful things.

Finally, last week (with the help of Flyboy) the frame was cleared, rolled forward a little bit (so that the machine doesn’t catch on the blinds – yes my frame is blocking off a perfectly good sliding door) and I got to work.

Best Friends Quilt - Inside

It was quilted in a big loopy pattern. Nothing too intricate. I just wanted it finished.

The block is called Best Friends and is from the book, Modern Blocks compiled by Susanne Woods. The fabric is fun isn’t it? It’s Summerville by Lucie Summers for Moda. I made this quilt with a layer cake, some white for the sashing and some yardage for the border.

This Best Friends quilt even has some flying geese blocks in the border.

Best Friends Quilt - Flying Geese

I’m not a fan of flying geese blocks, but I was watching an episode of Quilty on YouTube and got excited enough to make a block right then and there.

Some scraps of the Summerville fabric just happened to be sitting on my sewing table at the time. I liked the result so much that I included them in the quilt. This could be one of those rare quilts which include flying geese units. Flying Geese and Zippers – my two most un-favourite things.

What are your most un-favourite sewing related things?

Have you finished a quilt lately?

  2. Went straight off to purchase the kindle version after seeing your quilt. Can't wait to make this simple but effective quilt. Lots of other blocks to choose for future quilts too. Thanks for the posting. Great incentive to get the machine whizzing again !

  5. I also don't love flying geese, but you gave me a great idea with using the colors! Some flying geese I'm starting to like, others I hate :)

  6. Love your quilt! Making the sandwich has to be my most unfavourite, unless I take it to class and do it with friends on the big table there! But I hater trying to do it on the floor!
